3 Ways to carve out more "you time" in the day

In our fast-paced lives, finding time for ourselves often takes a backseat to work, family, and other commitments.

However, making "you time" a priority is so important for our well-being and overall happiness.

Here are three strategies to help you find more moments for yourself:

1. Start your day earlier

I know you might be rolling your eyes at this one because it’s definitely easier said than done.

But waking up just 15 to 30 minutes earlier can significantly transform your mornings into a peaceful, personal retreat.

Use this time to set a positive tone for the day ahead—whether it's:

  • enjoying a quiet cup of coffee

  • stretching for 10 minutes (wink wink)

  • savoring a few moments of silence

By starting your day on your terms, you establish a proactive mindset that can carry through the rest of your day.

Once you experience it you’ll want all mornings to be like that.

Although, some mornings you’ll just want the extra shut-eye …and that’s okay too!

2. Schedule "you time" blocks

Just as you schedule appointments and meetings, carve out dedicated blocks of time throughout your day for yourself.

Treat these blocks as non-negotiable appointments with yourself.

Whether it's…

  • a midday walk in the park

  • reading a chapter of a book

  • pursuing a hobby you love

…having designated "you time" ensures you prioritize self-care amidst your busy schedule.

And if you’re able to incorporate mini “you time” breaks that’s even better.

These breaks are usually 5-10 minutes to recharge:

  • step outside for some fresh air

  • stretch (wink wink)

  • practice deep breathing exercises

  • enjoy a quick journaling session

These small moments of self-care can help you feel more centered and energized throughout the day.

Tip: During working hours I found a calendar invite titled “busy” was harder for people to schedule over.

3. Leverage transition times

Transition times, like your commute or waiting periods between tasks, can be transformed into moments of "you time."

Instead of doom scrolling or mindlessly thinking about the next task, use this time intentionally:

  • listen to a podcast that inspires you

  • stretch (wink wink)

  • practice mindfulness by focusing on your breath

  • enjoy the quiet as you transition from one activity to another

Transition times are when I usually come up with my best ideas and the best solutions to whatever my issues are.

In summary

Incorporating these strategies into your daily routine can help you carve out more "you time" and cultivate a healthier balance between your personal and professional life.

Remember, prioritizing self-care isn't selfish—it's an essential investment in your overall well-being.

Start small, be consistent, and celebrate the moments you dedicate to yourself each day.

Remember, even the smallest moments dedicated to yourself can make a significant impact on your overall well-being.
